Archaeological project of Chudu Jinan City included in final list of "China's 100 Archaeological Discoveries over the Decade"

The 160 projects shortlisted for the final were unveiled in the recent selection and promotion of "China's 100 Archaeological Discoveries over the Decade". The event was advised by the National Cultural Heritage Administration (NCHA), and organized by the Society for Chinese Archaeology (SCA) and China Cultural Relics News. Chudu Jinan City in the period of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty in Jiangling, Hubei and the Eastern Zhou tombs around qualified for the "160-to-100" final.

The selection and promotion of "China's 100 Archaeological Discoveries over the Decade" kicked off in May 2021. A total of 321 archaeological discoveries were selected for the first-round selection. 110 judges, including executive council members of SCA, members of SCA's professional committees, as well as experts from archaeological research institutions of provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, selected 160 from 321 entries after a comprehensive review from dimensions such as region, period and type. Chudu Jinan City in the period of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty in Jiangling, Hubei and the Eastern Zhou tombs around were among them.

Situated in Jinan Town five kilometers outside Small North Gate, Chudu Jinan City is the former site of Ying, capital of the State of Chu in the period of China's Eastern Zhou Dynasty. To the south of Mount Ji, it is literally known as Jinan City since the Han Dynasty. A national archaeological campaign took place at Chudu Jinan City in 1975, bringing together seven universities including Peking University and Nanjing University, the National Museum of China and the Culture & Museum Research Institute of NCHA, as well as experts, scholars and archaeologists from culture & museum departments of seven provinces and municipalities such as Shanghai and Tianjin, to conduct massive exploration and excavation. The campaign unveiled the mystery of the Chu culture and opened up a new era for the archaeology of the Chu culture.
